Charting New Horizons: English Language and Literature Study Program Shines at UPI’s Open Visit 2025

Prospective students from all around Indonesia flocking to the Gymnasium Building of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia

The English Language and Literature Study Program at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) made a significant impact at the recent “Open Visit 2025” exposition, held at the Gymnasium Building of the University’s campus. This annual event, which attracted over 6,600 visitors from across the nation, provided a unique platform for prospective students to explore various academic programs and gather essential information about admissions, Saturday (9/2/2025).

The exposition event took place on February 8, 2025 from 08.00-17.00 at the second floor of the Gymnasium Building of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia attended by both teachers and students from various high schools nationwide, which was undertaken as a live gathering, while also being livestreamed on various social media platforms.

Apart from the exposition, the event hosted several other activities, including educational consultations at field booths, talk shows on University Entrance 2025, presentations about UPI’s profile, discussions on whistleblowing systems, career and study guidance, conversations with UPI’s students and alumni, and information sharing about UPI’s facilities and scholarships.

According to Prof. Suhendra, M.Ed., Ph.D., the Chairman of the Exposition and Director of UPI’s Public Relations Office, the primary goal of the exhibition is to connect prospective students with the University. “We aim to provide them with the information they need to make informed decisions about their future studies,” he stated. “As we prepare for Golden Indonesia in 2045, it is crucial that we attract the best students who will become the leaders and workforce of tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Prof. Eri Kurniawan, M.A., Ph.D., the Head of the English Language and Literature Study Program, shared his thoughts on the significance of the exposition for the program. “This exhibition is an excellent opportunity for us to introduce the prospects of studying in our program,” he remarked. “We have designed our curriculum to align with the evolving demands of the 21st-century job market. It is essential for students to not only master the English language but also to develop critical soft skills and technological competencies.”

He further elaborated on the integration of various skills within the curriculum. “In today’s world, it is not enough to possess hard skills alone. Our curriculum integrates soft skills, technological proficiency, and a strong foundation in software and artificial intelligence, alongside traditional English language, linguistics, and literature studies,” he explained. “This holistic approach ensures that our graduates are well-prepared to meet the challenges of the modern workforce.”

A recent graduate, Rina, who attended the exposition to explore further studies, expressed her excitement: “I graduated with a degree in English Literature, and I’m considering a master’s here.
