GUEST LECTURE: A NEW PARADIGM OF LEARNING IN THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION 5.0 IN JAPAN

Bandung, UPI

On November 5th,  2019, Professor Keiichiro Yoshinaga, Ph.D., gave a guest lecture in the 5th-floor Auditorium Faculty Of  Education Of  Language And Literature. He is a professor of Higher Education Policy Studies at Kanazawa University, Japan.

The theme of the event was The New Paradigm of Learning in Japan: STEM Education, Entrance Examination Reforms. STEM is a curriculum that focuses on four certain disciplines – Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.  They are integrated into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world implementation.

The purpose of this event was to give new knowledge about the learning system in the industrial revolution 5.0 in Japan, dig more about how the education system in Japan is developed, and increase motivation in students to pursue higher education in Japan.

The present paradigm of education is that the students must learn independently. “If it is just memorizing, students won’t be creative. Nowadays, students in Japan are trained to like science, so that, they build their creativity by using learning sources which are easily found along with the development of technology.” He said.

The event attracted a lot of students, most of whom were from education majors. However, the participants came from several different fields and levels of study. From undergraduate students, postgraduate students, doctoral students, lecturers, and also  general staff.

Hopefully, UPI could develop a method in creating an effective way of learning and teaching by looking at the process of how Japan develops a sophisticated learning method.
