Faculty of Mathematics and Science Education (FPMIPA), Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) showcased remarkable achievements at the international event Sustainability Ideas through Education, Engineering, and Design (S.E.E.D) Indonesia 2025, held at Sanata Dharma University (SDU), Yogyakarta, from July 16th to 18th, 2025 collaborate with Sogang University, Korea. The competition brought together 29 teams from various ASEAN Universities to co-create innovative and sustainable solutions to real-world environmental and social challenges through STEAM education, Maker practices, and design thinking. UPI was represented by three teams: LUMINOLYTIC, SINIMED, and HYDROMICA, accompanied by LUPIC representative from Chemistry and Chemistry Education.

Each UPI team presented distinctive projects: LUMINOLYTIC developed a low-cost and low-energy Arduino-based double-beam UV-Vis spectrophotometer to support quality education; SINIMED introduced an innovative 3D Periodic Table of Elements based on Arduino as a learning media to support the SDGs; and HYDROMICA created an interactive learning media of the biogeochemical hydrological cycle with Arduino microcontroller for global warming mitigation. Participants engaged in expert lectures, visited the KOICA STEAM Learning Center at SDU, and took part in the official opening ceremony attended by prominent figures from academia and international organizations.

During the second day, UPI teams participated in the project exhibition and competition phases. After the preliminary rounds, LUMINOLYTIC and SINIMED advanced to the final stage. The awarding ceremony recognized outstanding teams based on innovation, design, impact, and sustainability. UPI achieved significant recognition: SINIMED received the Grand Award, LUMINOLYTIC earned the Silver Award, and HYDROMICA won the Bronze Award. In addition, LUMINOLYTIC received the “Best Innovation by KOICA” special award, while SINIMED was honored with the “Best Friendship by LUPIC-ICCST” award under Triannisa Rahmawati, S.Pd., M.Si., as Supervisor from Chemistry Education Study Program, Prof Asep Kadarohman, Dr. Omay Sumarna, Prof Fitri Khoerunnisa from Science and Chemistry Study Program, and Qonita Muminah, M.Si.P. as co-supervisor.

The final day of the event included a series of lectures focusing on water purification, sustainable technology, and AI-based language learning. The competition concluded with meaningful insights and valuable experiences for all participants. UPI’s success at S.E.E.D Indonesia 2025 highlights its strong commitment to innovation, collaboration, and sustainability in higher education (TR).
