Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) continues to expand campus business units that directly support the well-being of its academic community. One of the latest initiatives was realized through the soft launching of the UPI Daycare, located at the UPI Dormitory in Bandung on January 7, 2026.
The daycare is managed by the UPI Staff Wives Association (Ikatan Keluarga Istri/IKA) UPI and is designed as a supporting facility for lecturers and staff, particularly those with young children. Its presence forms part of UPI’s broader strategy to build a family-friendly and productive campus ecosystem.
Director of UPI’s Business Directorate, Dr. Ida Farida Adi Prawira, S.E., M.Si., CFP., explained that the daycare was developed in response to real needs within the campus community.
“This daycare is expected to meet childcare needs for employees around the dormitory area. UPI previously established a daycare at another location, and now we are bringing similar services to a more strategic area,” she said.
She added that UPI’s business development efforts will continue in the near future, with additional business units planned as part of strengthening the university’s institutional independence. At this initial stage, these services are prioritized to meet the internal needs of the UPI community.
UPI Rector Prof. Dr. H. Didi Sukyadi, M.A. emphasized the strategic value of the daycare, not only in terms of services but also in improving the welfare and productivity of lecturers and staff.
“With a daycare on campus, lecturers and staff with young children can work with greater peace of mind. Children’s well-being is ensured, and at the same time, work productivity is expected to increase,” he stated.
The Rector also noted that the daycare’s legal and administrative framework has been carefully prepared, including the issuance of a Rector’s Decree. Its management must remain trustworthy, transparent, and accountable, with clear financial reporting conducted regularly and open to audit.
Furthermore, he stressed that the daycare is operated for collective benefit without personal interests, as part of UPI’s commitment to building a healthy and sustainable campus business ecosystem.
The soft launch of the UPI Dormitory Daycare symbolizes that UPI’s business development is not solely focused on economic value but also on social, humanitarian, and sustainability values. Through initiatives like this, UPI continues to position itself as an adaptive, caring, and progressive university in responding to the needs of its community.
Moreover, this initiative aligns with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being by supporting child welfare, SDG 4: Quality Education through early childhood care support, and SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by promoting a productive and family-friendly work environment. (Ajeng)
