Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), in collaboration with the Korea National University of Education (KNUE) and the UNESCO University Twinning Program (UNITWIN), successfully organized a science teacher training program titled “2026 KNUE UNITWIN Teacher Training Program for Quality Teacher Education.” The two-day event, held on Thursday and Friday, September 3–4, 2026, carried the theme “Preparing Future-Ready Science Teachers: Integrating Engineering Design Process and Generative AI for STEM Learning, Scientific Argumentation, and Assessment in an ESD Context.”
The training was conducted in a hybrid format and was attended by 88 participants: 30 in-person (offline) participants at the auditorium of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FPMIPA) at UPI and 58 participants who joined online via Zoom Meeting.
The training featured experts in the field of science and technology education, namely Prof. Youngsun Kwak, Ph.D. from Korea National University, who discussed the use of Generative AI to assess scientific argumentation skills; Prof. Youngheung Kim, Ph.D., and Minkyeoung Cheon from Korea National University of Education, who discussed about understanding and applying the Engineering Design Process (EDP) in STEM lesson planning, Prof. Dr. Phil. Ari Widodo, M.Ed., from the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, who presented on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), STEM education, and deep learning; and Dr. Rini Solihat, M.Pd., and Tuszie Widhiyanti, Ph.D., from the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia who presented on developing and re-designing ESD-STEM lesson plans.
This series of training activities was supported by the following facilitators: Amaira Utami, M.Pd., Anugrah Ayu Maharani, M.Pd., Dita Puji Rahayu, M.Pd., Syafira Defni, S.Pd. Gr., and Fairuzzahwa Fatimah Nurdini from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia.
This program also reflects the commitment of UPI, KNUE, and UNESCO UNITWIN to supporting Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 4: Quality Education. Specifically aimed at improving teacher quality and providing inclusive education relevant to contemporary developments, this training seeks to equip educators with up-to-date, technology-based pedagogical competencies.
Through this international collaboration, UPI and KNUE hope that participating science teachers will become educators ready to face future challenges and able to introduce technology-based learning innovations in the classroom to foster sustainable, high-quality education.
