Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), as the headquarters of the AsTEN Quality Accreditation Agency (ATQA), proudly announced the successful completion of ATQA’s 10th site visit accreditation assessment, held from August 18–20, 2026, at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Malaysia. This achievement underscores UPI’s continued leadership in supporting quality assurance and excellence in teacher education across ASEAN.

Two distinguished ASEAN scholars conducted the accreditation assessment: Prof. Emi Emilia, Ph.D. (Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Indonesia), and Le Hoang Dung, Ph.D. (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam). The program under review was the Bachelor of Education (Teaching English as a Second Language with Honors) at UPSI, designed to prepare future educators with strong pedagogical and linguistic expertise.

This accreditation marks the third institution in ASEAN outside Indonesia to be recognized by ATQA. With UPSI’s success, ATQA has now accredited a total of 10 programs, reinforcing its mission to strengthen teacher education standards and foster collaboration among ASEAN universities. During the closing address, Prof. Fuad Abdul Hamied, Executive Director of ATQA, emphasized the deeper meaning of this milestone: “We are not just a regulatory body. We are a catalyst for change. Our commitment is to ensure that teacher education in ASEAN is not just adequate, but excellent.”

Furthermore, the successful accreditation of UPSI’s TESL program reflects Malaysia’s growing leadership in teacher education excellence and highlights ASEAN institutions’ collective commitment to elevating academic quality. This milestone is expected to strengthen UPSI’s international reputation and support the broader vision of building a quality-driven, interconnected education community in Southeast Asia.

As highlighted by ATQA’s Executive Director, “When we ensure the quality of teachers, we ensure the quality of a generation.” In support of this noble initiative, UPI, as ATQA’s headquarters, expressed pride in ATQA’s achievement, emphasizing that this milestone demonstrates ATQA’s growing strength as an international accreditation body and reflects the collaborative spirit of ASEAN universities. UPI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining accreditation activities and advancing teacher education quality across the region. (Contributor: Dian Hendriana)
