Bandung, UPI
Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) is turning the spotlight on real world impact with the launch of its 2026 Innovation and Commercialization Development Grant Program. The scheme is now officially open for proposals from members of the UPI academic community whose innovations are ready to be scaled up and implemented in collaboration with partner users marking a decisive step toward transforming research into tangible benefits for society and industry.
As a university with core strengths in education, social humanities, applied technology, and social innovation, UPI has consistently produced practical models, appropriate technologies, innovative products, and policy solutions. Many of these innovations have reached a level of maturity that makes them ready for implementation. However, they require a dedicated funding mechanism to accelerate their development and commercialization, ensuring that communities and industries can fully benefit from them.
Through the Directorate of Innovation, Commercialization, and Science Techno Park (DIHS), this grant is designed to support projects that:
- are clearly driven by real user needs,
- are at an advanced stage of development, and
- already have partnership support or commitments from industry, government agencies, or community groups.
The program explicitly does not target basic or exploratory research, but instead focuses on innovations that are ready for implementation and show strong potential for adoption by partners.
Strengthening Strategic Partnerships and Tangible Impact
The 2026 Innovation and Commercialization Grant Program also aims to strengthen UPI’s collaboration with industry (DUDI), government institutions, and local communities. Through this initiative, UPI seeks to:
- support the adoption of innovative models by partner institutions,
- facilitate the implementation of appropriate technologies in real-world settings,
- promote the development and utilization of innovative products,
- generate outputs based on intellectual property,
- enhance public service quality and community empowerment,
- improve the competitiveness of partner institutions.
UPI has allocated dedicated funding for this program, with a strong emphasis on measurable outcomes and practical impact. The initiative serves as a strategic instrument to reinforce UPI’s contribution to research commercialization and the downstreaming (hilirisasi) of priority-area innovations.
Academic staff and students interested in applying for the 2026 Innovation and Commercialization Grant Program can follow these steps:
- access the proposal template (TemplateHilirisasiUPI2026)
- review the program guidelines (Pedoman Program Hilirisasi UPI 2026)
All applications must comply with the official guidelines and submission schedule set by Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI).
UPI is calling on all campus innovators to step forward and help turn ideas into real-world impact an active contribution to national development and a key step in strengthening Indonesia’s broader innovation ecosystem.
By connecting research, industry, and society, this initiative aligns strongly with SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), promoting inclusive, innovation-driven progress across the country. (Andri)
