Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), through the Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Education (FPTI), once again organized the GREAT Summer Program 2026 as part of its efforts to strengthen internationalization and academic collaboration in the field of engineering and vocational education. The program was officially opened online by the Rector of UPI, Prof. Dr. H. Didi Sukyadi, M.A., on Tuesday, 7 July 2026.
Carrying the theme “AI-Enabler Green Transformation for Future Skills and Sustainable Workforce,” the GREAT Summer Program 2026 serves as one of FPTI UPI’s initiatives to respond to the rapid development of artificial intelligence, the growing importance of green skills, and the need to prepare a sustainable workforce for the future. The program also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting quality education, decent work, innovation, and climate-conscious development.
The program received support from UNESCO-UNEVOC and was promoted through the network of the Regional Association for Vocational and Technical Education in Asia(RAVTE). This support further strengthens FPTI UPI’s position as a faculty that actively builds global networks in the development of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), particularly in addressing the challenges of digital transformation and sustainable development.
In his remarks, the Rector of UPI emphasized the important role of education in preparing young people to face global change. He highlighted that the advancement of artificial intelligence and the green transformation agenda should be addressed by higher education institutions through the strengthening of competencies, ethics, innovation, and awareness of sustainability.

The Dean of FPTI UPI, Dr. Eng. Agus Setiawan, M.Si., stated that the GREAT Summer Program serves as an important momentum to bring together academic and global perspectives in discussing the future of engineering and vocational education. He noted that AI and green transformation should be understood as interconnected elements in preparing graduates who are adaptive, innovative, and responsible for the future.
The Chair of the GREAT Summer Program 2026, Dr. Mustika Nuramalia Handayani, who also serves as the Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Partnerships of FPTI UPI, stated that this year marks the second edition of the GREAT Summer Program.
“This Program reflects FPTI UPI’s consistency in developing an international program that connects students, lecturers, global experts, and international partners around the issues of AI, green transformation, and future skills,” said Mustika.
The online sessions of the GREAT Summer Program 2026 were held over two days, from 7 to 8 July 2026, and attended by more than 140 participants from various countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Ghana, and Togo. The program was also broadcast live through the official YouTube channel of FPTI UPI, allowing it to reach a wider audience.
During the online sessions, participants gained insights from international speakers representing the UNESCO Regional Office in Jakarta, the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris Malaysia, and Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi Thailand. The topics discussed included ethical and responsible AI in education, green skills, TVET transformation, graduate employability, youth employability, collaborative green project design, and sustainable workforce readiness.

Following the online sessions, the GREAT Summer Program 2026 will continue with onsite activities in Bandung from 14 to 16 July 2026. The program will include campus activities, a field trip, cultural exchange, and the Grand Final of INGENIC (the International Green Innovation Competition). The selection process for INGENIC has been carried out since June, and the competition provides a platform for students to develop innovative ideas and solutions related to green transformation.
Through the GREAT Summer Program 2026, FPTI UPI reaffirms its commitment to strengthening international collaboration and advancing the transformation of engineering and vocational education that is adaptive to AI development, oriented toward green skills, and relevant to the needs of a sustainable workforce at the global level.
