The 2019 Outstanding Students Selection is a student activity organized under the coordination of the Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education. This event has its own prestige among other student activities, because it has a fairly large assessment weight. In 2019, The Most Outstanding Student selection has a value of 40% of the score.

The statement was delivered by the 2019 UPI Most Outstanding Student Quarantine Coordinator who was also the Head of the UPI Directorate of Student Relations and Alumni Relations Division Dr. Sandey Tantra Paramitha, S.Si., M.Pd., at the quarantine location of 2019 UPI Most Outstanding Student participants, in the Lavender Room, Isola Resort, Dr. Setiabudhi Street Number 229 Bandung, Tuesday (3/19/2019).

Based on this, he said, the committee tried to make a kind of strategy to produce outstanding student candidates who really excel in all fields to represent UPI on the national level. These outstanding students are expected to have a preparation to compete on the national level of the Most Outstanding Student Selection.

“Therefore, we try a new model in the quarantine process, where this quarantine process is very important to undergo in order to form a superior student character. Students who are present here are candidates who have passed the selection at the faculty and  other UPI campuses level,” he said.

From a number of students quarantined, he continued, as many as 13 people came from undergraduate programs and 3 from the diploma pathway. The aim of this quarantine is to prepare students from various aspects, such as the spiritual, physical and spiritual side, and to give motivation in preparation for competing at the national level. They were also followed by personality tests, Leaderless Group Discussion (LGD) and Scientific Writing tests and English language proficiency.

He explained, ” The scores of the test results will be accumulated using predetermined parameters, so that one candidate will be selected from the undergraduate program and one from the diploma path. The parameters used refer to the national level of Most Outstanding Student parameter. In this quarantine process, they are completely kept away from outside influences, so that they really focus on the activities being faced. ”

To support the success of this program, he said, the committee prepared the medical team and presented a sport instructor in order to support their physical and physical health while participating in this quarantine process, which indeed requires excellent physical conditions.

On Wednesday, March 20th, 2019, 121 people from 42 working units participated in a workshop on Business Process Mapping in UPI 2019, at FPEB Auditorium, UPI Campus, Jl. Dr. Setiabudhi Nomor 229 Bandung. These working units consist of the Vice Deans of Finance and Faculty Resources, the Deputy Director of Post-graduate School/Regional Campuses, and the Head of Administration which includes the Head of Division and the Heads of Subdivisions, as well as operators who are responsible for IT system in UPI.

In his report, the Head of UPI Staff Bureau, Dr. Sahroni, S. Sn., M.Pd., stated that the Business Process Mapping Workshop is part of the government’s reformation and bureaucracy program. This program will produce the charts of working unit business processes in UPI, which will be compiled by university level evaluation team, and later become the university’s business process.

He affirmed that, “The purpose of Business Process Mapping is to provide guidance for Organization Unit in identifying, constructing, documenting, developing, monitoring and evaluating the Organization Unit Business Process. In order to simplify the governance and make it efficient, effective, productive and accountable.”

The legal basis of this activity is the Regulation of the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform No. 19 2019, which regulates Business Process Mapping in Government Agencies. There is also the Regulation of Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education No. 71 2017, about the Guidelines for Organization and Evaluation of Business Process Map and Standard Operational Procedure, in the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education scope. The result of Business Process Mapping should be submitted to the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, no later than March 31st, 2019.

“During the workshop, participants were given explanations regarding the techniques of making business process map from several speakers, with guidance from the instructors and their assistants. This was to make it easier for participants in the Business Process Mapping process,” he explained.

“Each working unit then completes the business process mapping on their own. The result can be submitted to the university through the Staff Bureau, no later than March 25th, 2019,” he said again. “We hope that the SOP could be the basis in the business process mapping, because the SOP which was created on ISO couldn’t connect the processes from one unit to another.”

A similar statement was given by the Vice Rector of Finance, Resources and General Administration, Dr. H. Edi Suryadi, M.Si. He stated that ”Business Process Mapping Workshop in UPI 2019 is a program by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education in relation with reformation and bureaucracy. One of the activities is to create business process map in each level of working units in UPI. Through this business process, we expect to achieve effectivity and efficiency in the management of the university.”

“Therefore, we invited every working unit in UPI to create their own unit business processes, until they can explain the SOP. So, we can measure everything clearly, what the activities are, how the activities are being done and what the outputs are,” he said.

“I reaffirm that the purpose of this program is to implement bureaucratic reform, so there will be an effective and efficient organization in the university with clear step by step processes. Everyone has their own role, and it is important how they carry out their jobs, which result in clear outputs.”

He also said that, “Every working unit is expected to participate in the workshop attentively, so they will know how to do the business process. So that every aspect in those units can work as properly as they should.”

“The output of this program is a product, a conception of business processes of each work units. Aside from SOP, we also have ISO, which synergizes well in organizing activities.” (dodiangga)

“I express my utmost gratitude to my parents, all lecturers of Accounting Study Program from the Faculty of Economics and Business Education (FPEB) UPI, my friends and the committee of Most Outstanding Students Award (Pilmapres) UPI 2019 who have stayed by my side to support and cheer me, as well as prayed for me over the course of the event. I was very grateful when I saw my name listed as the 3rd winner of UPI Most Outstanding Student. I have to say that everyone who was involved in this process is amazing. I hope this victory could motivate myself and everyone around me.”

Muhamad Naufal, a 2016 batch student from Accounting Study Program FPEB UPI expressed his feelings after knowing the result of Pilmapres UPI 2019 on Wednesday, March 20th, 2019 at Lavender Meeting Room, Isola Resort, Jl. Dr. Setiabudhi No. 229 Bandung.

“I have never imagined that I could ever be an outstanding student, let alone a winner,” he said. “I wasn’t really sure about it, because I thought it would be hard to go through it.”

“One time my friend Mahesa asked me to join the most outstanding students selection on the level of the study program. Then I passed to the faculty level to represent my study program. I won second place in 2018. Since then, I’ve came to realize my potentials and I want to keep developing myself. Now I manage to win third place on University level in 2019.”

“I’ve gone through a great struggle to get to this point,” he recalled. “I had to run around bringing files up and down the stairs, I had to revise my scientific paper, and many other preparations. It was very exhausting. The lecturers of Accounting Study Program and FPEB education staff also worked hard to prepare everything. The hard work and sincere effort from everyone have successfully made me an outstanding student.”

“I felt all sorts of mixed emotions when I went through the quarantine and selection process on the university level. However, as time went by, things got better. We could laugh together, we shared knowledge and discussed a lot of things with each other,” he concluded. (dodiangga)

The Bumi Siliwangi team, who was the world champion in Shell Eco Marathon Asia back in 2016, are now ready to take part in the Shell Eco Marathon Asia 2019 in Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia with their two Urban Concept vehicles, Turangga Cheta EV7 and Simha Cetha EV3.

That was remarked by the Deputy Rector for Research, Partnership, and Business, Prof. Dr. H. Didi Sukyadi, M.A., in his welcoming speech for the Grand Launching of Turangga Cheta EV7 Urban Concept Battery Electric and Simha Cetha EV3 Urban Concept Hydrogen at the hall of the National Education Museum of UPI, Dr. Setiabudhi Street 229 Bandung on Thursday (21/3/2019).

He explained, “The two vehicles are the results of the research conducted by Bumi Siliwangi team for Shell Eco Marathon Asia 2019. The bodies of the vehicles use carbon fiber which has the advantages of being strong and light with a density that is only about one fifth of iron but twice the tensile strength;. hence it is often used for high performance vehicles. Carbon fiber is very stable and good for reducing the heat and high fatigue resistance. The difference between the two vehicles is in the fuel. Turangga Cheta uses electric fuel cells, while Simha Cetha uses hydrogen fuel cells.”

“The headship of the university appreciates every effort from Bumi Siliwangi team that is capable to take part in Asia level Shell Eco Marathon competition,” he expressed. “The stairs to success are not easy to climb nor is it easy to maintain the title of a champion. We hope that the title can be reclaimed, even though that is not the main goal. At the very least, we can show our utmost performance so as to prove that we are not the champion because of a mere coincidence, but because we deserve to be, which will at once prove the doubters wrong.”

“What is most important is the regeneration program. It must advance to the next level. This is done so as to not turn the research to waste. Therefore, training must be done continuously,” he insisted. “Hopefully, Simha Cetha EV3 Urban Concept Hydrogen will be steadily developed through continuous research to produce an environmentally friendly vehicle. Regardless of being a champion or not, the research still has to progress. The launching of this urban concept hydrogen vehicle is a remarkable achievement as it is not easy to accomplish. The university will continue to offer its support in various aspects.”

“I am truly grateful for having participated in the selection of UPI’s Most Outstanding Student 2019, as I had the opportunity to meet my fellow finalists who bear incredible potentials. To me, every one of them is a champion,” said Muhammad Rafi Anggara. This is evident in the discussions during the quarantine period; a scientific, motivational and spiritual atmosphere was always felt.

Such were the words of a student of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Technology and Vocation of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Muhamad Rafi Anggara. He shared his experience of joining the Selection for Most Outstanding Student of UPI 2019 in the Lobby of the Faculty of Technology and Vocation in Jalan Dr. Setiabudhi No. 299 Bandung, Thursday (21/3/2019).

He told HUMAS UPI, “Being crowned the most accomplished student in the university is unexpected for me. I’d like to say my thanks to everyone who has helped me, especially the Vice Dean of Students of the Faculty of Technology and Vocation, Dr. Ana, M.Pd., for her persevering and generous support. I’d also like to thank my lecturers in the department as well as the faculty who have guided me. I have received much knowledge and insight during the preparation for the selection for Most Outstanding Student. No words can express how I feel more than Jazakumullahu khairan katsiran. May Allah bless your loving kindness.”

My biggest motivation comes from both of my parents, he said. My desire to give back to them and make them proud kept me going. Alhamdullilah, I received the opportunity to continue studying through BIDIKMISI (scholarship for prestigious low-income students) by which I can ease the economic burden my parents need to bear.

He explained, “In order to finish my study, I chose to live as a Takmir in Al-Muqoddimah Mosque, to cut living costs. But because of that, I received blessings. It’s as written in surah Muhammad verse 7, Allah will support those who support His religion. These motivations become a foundation for my activities in university, in student organization, in social life, and many more.” (dodiangga)
